I’m a DC member
For defined contribution members of the YBS Retirement Savings Plan (the Plan), which is administered by Fidelity and currently open to new members.
I’m a DB member
For defined benefit members of the Scheme (you may know this as a Final Salary or CARE 65 pension benefit). This scheme is now closed to new members and to future accrual.
If you don’t know whether you’re a DB member, a DC member or both you can find out by looking at your latest communications from the Trustee or your benefit statement.
You won’t be able to access details about the benefits you personally hold in the Scheme on this website. However, in the relevant sections, you’ll find links through to our administrator sites where you can access or request these details.
Changes to the Plan's Lifestyle investment options
The Trustee has completed a review of the Plan's investment options, and will be making changes to the design of two of the Lifestyle strategies. You can read more in the investment strategy review.
Your Trustee and Trustee Directors
The Trustee (YBS Pension Trustees Limited) is responsible for the overall management of the Scheme.
The Trustee is there to protect members and their pension benefits and to make sure benefits are paid on time and in line with Scheme Rules. The Trustee monitors and seeks to minimise risks where possible, working closely with specialist advisors and undergoing regular training so you can be assured that your pension is in capable hands.

We are pleased to announce that Inder Dhingra joined the YBS Pension Scheme Trustee Board on 1 December 2021 as Chair.
Inder has more than 10 years’ experience as a professional pension scheme trustee and around 25 years’ experience working in financial services covering risk management, treasury, finance, investment management, insurance and pensions.
Inder has extensive leadership experience and has a solid grounding in Corporate Governance including experience on Board level and Senior Executive Committees including Chairing Board and Board-subcommittees.
Inder said: “I am honoured to be joining the YBS Pension Scheme Trustee Board and really looking forward to working with my fellow Trustees, the Pensions Team and the Society to ensure we get the best outcome for all the Scheme members”.
Charles Canning began his career at Leeds Permanent Building Society, later moving on to the Yorkshire Building Society, where he worked for 31 years. Charles worked in various senior roles, across the Society and latterly as Chief Customer Officer as part of the Executive team at YBS . Charles retired from YBS in February 2021 and now spends time with his family and has a bit more time to travel and enjoy all types of sport.
Charles joined the Trustee Board as a Society Nominated Director in July 2021 and brings his wealth of experience of people leadership & communication at YBS to the Board, which is fully utilised on the Communications Sub-committee which he chairs.
Vicky has over 15 years’ experience in financial services, 12 of those as a solicitor working in pensions, consumer credit, mortgages and savings, legal risk and governance. Vicky currently leads the YBS Legal team in her role as General Counsel. Outside work Vicky enjoys cycling and travel.
Vicky said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as an MNT. I’m looking forward to working with the Trustees and those involved with running the pension scheme, ensuring what we do delivers the best outcomes for scheme members.”
Dave is a Strategic Excellence Partner at YBS and has been with the Society since 2008. Dave started his career at the Society as a Management Trainee in the Retail Network and from there, held various Retail leadership roles which then led to roles in Project Delivery, Innovation Delivery and more recently, Business Engagement for Projects. Alongside these roles, Dave has completed extensive external qualifications via the London Institute of Banking & Finance [LIBF] with multiple Diplomas in Banking, Finance and Management; qualifications in Banking ethics, conduct and professionalism and Strategic Management & Innovation in Banking. Dave has a breadth of experience across the Society and over the years has successfully developed and delivered significant change programmes for the Society.
Dave is married to Sadie and has two young children. In his spare time, Dave coaches his sons junior football team, completes endurance challenges, plays Chess and enjoys socialising. Dave is also a keen supporter of Blackburn Rovers as well as Blackburn Hawks, the local ice hockey team.
Dave says: “I am hugely delighted and appreciative to take on the important role as Member Nominated Director [MND] and look forward to working with the other Trustees to support our scheme Members.”
Craig has been a Trustee since October 2014 and in November 2018, he took up the position of Senior Manager - Balance Sheet Strategy.
Prior to working in Balance Sheet Management, he worked in the Treasury department in a number of roles, ending up as the Liquidity and Derivatives Manager.
Outside of work Craig is a keen golfer and supports Middlesbrough FC for his sins!
Alasdair has been a Trustee since January 2020, having joined the YBS Board in December 2017 as Chief Finance Officer. He has responsibility for Group Finance, Balance Sheet Management, Treasury, and DMIBS (Data, MI and Business Services).
Alasdair began his career on the management training programme at Mars Inc. where he spent a number of years working in sales, before making the decision to move into finance. Since then, he’s gained significant experience in the financial services sector holding roles such as the Finance Director of Retail Products for Lloyds Banking Group, and Group CFO for BGL Group. He has also been Chairman of the Audit Committee for Sainsbury’s Bank and the Coventry Building Society.
Outside of work Alasdair is a keen golfer, follows Brentford, and enjoys cricket.
